On Posing Dogs

Dogs, in contrary to cats, can be posed. This example here is a try for a show-pose. However, the model was our shy whippet of less than a year. She became quite intimidated by the whole situation so we decided not to push for the perfect pose. With an older dog you can usually work on it a bit longer. I guess it also helps if you have some experience in training dogs and animals.

One thing to consider, is that the backdrops made out of paper are slippery. You can improve the situation for the dog simply by adding a little bit of lemonade or soft-drink to the paws. It makes them stand much firmer and it’s simpler to pose them in a show pose. Exactly what is a show pose can be slightly different depending on breed. It is as always important to do the research.
